Standing Together for Nepal: One Family, One Heart

When we first learned about the devastating floods along Nepal’s Trishuli and Bhote Koshi corridors, we knew we wanted to help. As we learned more about what was happening on the ground, one part of the response especially stayed with me—the needs of women and adolescent girls who were suddenly displaced and without access to many of the basic necessities we often take for granted and they are at the most risk when there is no where to turn.

Through our research, we connected with Bagmati Welfare Society Nepal (BWSN), a grassroots Nepalese organization with more than 30 years of experience in disaster response and community resilience. Their teams have been working directly in Nuwakot and Rasuwa, responding to families who have lost homes, belongings and, in many cases, loved ones. BWSN has been remarkable in its commitment to reaching communities on the ground and identifying the needs that can so easily be overlooked during an emergency.

One of those needs is the safety, dignity and well-being of women and adolescent girls. When families are displaced and living in crowded temporary shelters, women and girls can become especially vulnerable. Access to basic needs and personal hygiene supplies, privacy and a safe place to care for themselves can disappear almost overnight.

The generosity of our community is helping provide dignity kits for women and girls in the affected communities, while also supporting the broader emergency response. Every contribution is a reminder that compassion has no borders. There may be oceans between us, different languages, cultures and time zones, but none of those things separate us from one another. We are one human family.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed, shared this effort, or simply held the people of Nepal in their hearts. Your generosity is helping provide practical support to families who are facing an incredibly difficult time.

And we are especially grateful to BWSN for the extraordinary work they are doing on the ground. We will continue to share updates as the response unfolds and as we learn how your generosity is making a difference.

From our community in the USA to the communities of Nepal—with love, compassion and gratitude, we stand together.
